Meals on Wheels

About the Program

Meals on Wheels is a program that provides a daily (Monday through Friday) hot, nutritious noontime meal and personal contact to the homebound elderly. Approximately 650 Collin County seniors receive Meals on Wheels. Meals are prepared in our central kitchen in McKinney, TX and delivered to several drop points around the county. Volunteer drivers deliver the food to clients’ homes. This service is provided on the basis of need, regardless of income to persons 60 years of age and older. To qualify for Meals on Wheels, persons must be:

    • 60 Years of Age or older
    • homebound and unable to shop or cook
    • live alone; or have no family or caregiver available at the noontime to prepare a meal
    • nutritionally at risk
    • a resident of Collin County

To receive Meals on Wheels, seniors may apply themselves or be referred by a hospital, doctor, social worker, other agencies, family members or other concerned individuals. Home visits are made to assess eligibility. Call Margaret Adams our Senior Case Manager at 972-562-6996 ext 123 to request an assessment.

The full cost of one meal is $4.50. Recipients are sent monthly letters indicating the number of meals received during the previous month. A donation of $3.00 is suggested, however, no one is ever denied a meal. Family members may choose to handle this monthly donation for their loved one.

Grants from the City of McKinney for evening meals for eligible clients residing in McKinney, and from the City of Plano for weekend meals for eligible clients residing in Plano are also available.

Meals on Wheels is funded by the Older Americans Act, North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging, City of Plano, United Way, corporate and foundation grants, donations from churches, civic organizations, and recipients
