Rosalynn Carter
The definition of a caregiver is
"a person who provides unpaid assistance to a relative or
friend who is ill, elderly or disabled". The
duties of a caregiver are often overwhelming. Statistics state that more than 50
million people provide care for a chronically ill, disabled or
aged family member, and 4 out of 10 caregivers are also raising
children still at home.
Caregivers dedicate, on
average,
20 hours per week to provide care for older persons. One-third of all
caregivers
describe their own health as fair to poor. With this in mind, our
program
is designed to make the caregiver's duties manageable by providing education and
training, as well as information
and referral services. Our goal is to help reduce caregiver stress,
minimize
their research time and enable them to spend more quality time with
their
loved one.
With this in mind, Collin
County Committee on Aging has the following services available:
Each caregiver that contacts our
office receives a Caregiver Packet with information and education
tools to better assist in the duties they perform. As a caregiver
in our program you will also receive the Caregiver Quarterly
Newsletter. Contact our office for more information.
